The following sites provide information about wine for anyone who is looking for some general "wine knowledge" background. Some of them don't even try to sell you anything!!
- www.jancisrobinson.com ; Basically a newsletter style site where Jancis Robinson MW holds forth, and very good she is at that. However subscribe to the "Purple Pages" and get access to the on-line version of "Oxford Companion to Wine". You will need nothing more to become a true wine expert.
- www.soyouwanna.com ; An amusing site which sets out to teach you how to become an instant expert in your chosen field. Follow this link to the "How to fake being a Wine Expert" section. It does what it says on the tin. A great introduction to the world of wine for the complete beginner.
- www.harpers-wine.com ; This link will take you to the wine reports section of the on-line version of Harpers Wine & Spirit Weekly, the best trade paper (in my opinion). These reports, selected by country, will satisfy the biggest wine "anoraks" with facts and figures relating to wine production. It also provides latest vintage reports.
- www.wineeducation.com ; OK, so this site is trying to sell you a wine education trip to Aspen, Colorado, but I can think of worse things!! The site does contain some useful information, all be it from an American viewpoint.
- www.vineuk.co.uk ; Lots of associated sites that ultimately are trying to sell you stuff (I have never bought anything from them!!), but they do contain a lot of general wine information.
This is not meant to be an extensive list, being my own selection. If you have any recommendations for sites that you feel should be listed here please e-mail me at lists@vinifactor.co.uk and they might get added.
